thinking about food, and drink, and, well - me!

GREENS
1. i don't like mixed greens. i only like romaine, iceberg, or spinach in my salad. i don't like those weird pointy leaves, purple leaves, or bits with red stems.
2. i only like salad if someone else makes it.
3. did you know that slicing iceberg lettuce into wedges and putting a wedge in each person's bowl counts as a real salad? my dad used to make these and i thought he was being lazy - but since then i've seen "wedge of iceberg" on restaurant menus. whack.
4. in england they serve a lettuce-y green called "
rocket". in the u.s. we call this green "arugula".
5. i prefer small pieces of lettuce. i don't like huge leaves that block your whole face when you put one little corner in your mouth.
6. once pete shredded lettuce in the food processor (for tacos) and it was really soggy so he ran the shreds through the salad spinner. the shreds just clogged up the spinner. you need to know that the shreds were about as long as this line: _________
i have to admit that together we came up with the idea of running the shreds through the spinner. but it's funnier if you picture him standing there alone with his clogged salad spinner. (the salad spinner is his favorite gadget so he's always in charge of spinning.) he has a cute apron too.

BOOZE

1. consider a cosmopolitan that includes a bit of pineapple juice. or pineapple juice instead of cranberry. thoughts? kww?
2. once for kww's b-day bash, she and i made 8 billion chocolate martinis for all the guests. they were too rich for everyone, so she and i went around and finished everyone's half-full chocolate martini. um, i regretted that choice later on.
3. when i was in college, my roommate clancy and i walked to the other side of town to buy 1/2 bottle of rum from my friend jon f. we also borrowed the ween CD "pure guava" from him and it remains one of my favorite CDs to this day. i mean, i eventually bought my own copy. on the way back to our dorm room i hid the rum inside my coat like a creepy flasher and at one point some cops drove by so i went into a phone booth and pretended to make a call until they passed. oh did i mention we were underage?
4. my parents and their friends have a new years party every year and one year about 20 years ago (this puts them at about 40 years old or so, 45 maybe) one of my parents' friends said that she heard drinking vodka does not lead to a hangover. so they totally went nuts drinking vodka and they were all hurtin' the next day. silly adults!

GENERAL FOODSTUFFS
1. i would rather eat macaroni and cheese than dessert.
2. however, when there's dessert i much prefer cake to pie.
3. i don't like to bite things. including apples, sandwiches, and pizza.
4. on the other hand i like to bite cookies and crackers.
5. i like thai food for dinner, but not for lunch.
6. i like to dip breakfast sausage in maple syrup. if there's no syrup, chances are i'll just skip the sausage.
7. i don't like sun-dried tomatoes.

soon i will tell you a wonderful story about a traveling crock of macaroni and cheese and the awesome week that led up to that magic crock.

How about popcorn, Bladio? What are your thoughts/feelings on popcorn, my most favoritest snack ever?

As a recent convert to the pineapple, I can consider such a cosmopinatin, however, what I can not condone is serving a cosmopolitan on ice in a high ball glass. Rigid as that sounds, watering down the martini is unconscionable.

On second thought, it has been my experince that adding pineapple juice to a delicious drink was not favorable--Torby's margarita is delicious, but Dave's backyard margarita with a splash of pinapple juice is not (both were once featured drinks at the Morseland). However, there may have been other recipe differences that were less noticeable on the palate.

Also, my parents love the wedge salad.

As clarification, while the chocolate martini may have caused short-term regrets, I have long term fond memories! :)

Weird about jon f. and ween. I do not care for ween. I have not seen jon f. since i met his girlfriend in Omaha two (?) years ago "dusty jean" was her name. She was really pretty in that sort of Colorado/Wyoming cow-girl kind of way and the name really fit.

Someone should tell Watie about the vodka thing--he thinks he is allergic to brown liquor.

I try to keep my sausage away from my maple sigh-rup.

I can't wait for the traveling crock story!!! YAY!
Can't wait to be eating with you soon! kww

In reference to comment length, Miss Manners would say, 'It's nobody's damn business but your own!'
Miss Manners and I are tight.

but WHY?
WHY? That's what I want to know.

At 2/09/2006 8:27 AM , Blogger bladio said...

why? because:
1. i do not like the taste
2. i don't like how those things get stuck in my teeth
3. i don't like how my stomach feels after i eat it
i guess that's about it. i'm happy for you that you like it so much!

dear nuclear toast,
i didn't talk about toast in this blog because i think that subject warrants its own post, and should not be grouped in with other things. stay tuned!
