Ho Ho Holiday

Q: When you live in Seattle, how do you know it's Christmas?
A: The Space Needle has a christmas tree on top of it.

Dup once told me that FW hates the Christmas Space Needle so much that when he's standing in line at the ATM he shakes his fist at it.

I guess everyone has their Christmas quirks. For instance, some people don't care for Mannheim Steamroller, some don't care for the Space Needle Christmas Tree and some people can't stand those Christmas trees with the fiber-optic strands that emit slowly blinking multi-colored light. (That last one would be me.)

I'm in favor of the Christmas Space Needle, and the tree-ish thing on top of the Vance? Hotel and EVERYTHING CHRISTMAS except for the yard of the people who live up the street from my mom.
Each year they put out a dingy, glowing, plastic graveyard of Christmas yuck.

Also, on a tree:

white lights = classic! mwaa!
multicolored lights = boo! boo!

I have never really thought I was completely Christmas crazy, but I actually like the space needle tree (or at least the lovely photo), I like Manheim Steamroller, and I might like the christmas trees made with fiber optics, if what that means is those neat plastic tubes that light up on one end and change color (although I can only recall having only seen them in spherical presentations). I also love white classic lights and multicolored lights on the tree (This year Simon picked gold lights--an unusual choice, but we strung them up with our white lights of years past and it is okay). So, I was feeling lame earlier because I couldn't think of what Christmas thing I didn't like. Then...it happened...
I was listening to streaming radio San Francisco's holiday music station, and this song started, and I can't even tell you much about it except that it started me freaking out so bad I had to take my headphones off and fumble around to close the ITunes window. Turns out it was something like "The crypt keeper's rap"
Oooh man....I feel yucky just thinking about it.

I like the Christmas Space Needle. If it were up to me, there would be a big ol' lighted turkey up there on Thanksgiving, a grinning pumpkin there on Halloween, fireworks would spew from the top on the 4th of July, and they'd haul the Hammering Man up there every year for Labor day!
OK, maybe that's too much to ask. But I do like the Christmas Space Needle.

kww - that sounds like the most horrible song in the whole world. what the fark is that all about?!

This FW fellow sounds great. I'm from Nebraska, but I don't like the sound of a "Space Needle Christmas Tree." What happened to good old pine needles?!

When I was little we had a bunch of children's books called the Wheeble on the Needle (or something like that). They were about a friendly little monster that lives on top of the Space Needle and the red blinking light that you see is really his big red blinking nose. I was shocked when I mentioned it to someone who grew up somewhere else and they had no idea what I was talking about! I thought kids all over the world (or at least the country) had those books, like the Berenstain Bears!

That's the Wheedle! Only reason I know that is there's a great compilation of early 70's Seattle funk that came out last year called "Wheedle's Groove." And there's a song on there called "Wheedle's Groove."
I vote YES on Christmas Space Needle!

Bladio, They are hard to describe, but a fiber optic tree looks like a regular fake X-mas tree except it has those clear strands which colored light travels through. They used to have sprays of those strands at Spencer's Gifts when I was a kid. (look here for an example of the 'spray': http://demoroom.physics.ncsu.edu/html/demos/90.html )

If you would like to see a fiber-optic TREE go to:

You can even scroll down and see one in action.
