Thinkin 'bout...Arby's
Shafty and I had quite a long talk about Arby's the other night, and we have planned an Arby's date up at Northgate. We will also go to Best Buy and Target!
Anyway, Shafty and I have differing memories of Arby's in our youth. In fact at times the conversation got a bit heated! (One of these particular moments was due to a misunderstanding.) So readers, this is a call out for you to post your Arby's memories in the comments section of this post.
Examples:
1. How has the menu changed since you were a kid?
2. What did you like to get there as a kid? And what about now? What kind of side-dish potatoes did you get then? Now?
3. What was it like when Arby's first came to your town?
4. How often did you go there?
5. Do you remember any big new product releases that happened? (A similar moment with a different chain would be when McDonald's first offered Chicken McNuggets.)
6. Remember how some of them had huge hat signs? But others didn't?
I am excited to see what everyone has to say!
Love,
Bladio
p.s. As you know I love "Seinfeld" and Elaine's on-again, off-again flame, David Puddy, always wanted to go to Arby's.

Potato cakes! Always have to have the potato cakes!
P.S. An Arby's anecdote: I remember when my mom told me that Arby's stood for "R" "B" as in
ROAST BEEF.
The last time I went to Arby's was maybe ten years ago. I only remember the sandwiches, how DELICIOUS they were, that smooshed down roast beef and the warm, damp bun oh and the sauces. Good sauces. The Wenatchee Arby's had a very tall hat sign, it was then, and perhaps is still, the tallest thing in town.
No Arby's in Cedar Falls, Iowa when I was growing up, although I think there is one now. I was always sad when I'd see the commercials for it, because we didn't have one. I love those roast beef and cheddars (on a regular bun, not onion bun) because they're so, so messy!
in my memory, they only had potato cakes as sides. they added curly fries and regular fries much later. does anyone else remember it that way? pete doesn't but he says he couldn't think about sides when he was there because he was going crazy for the roast beef.
That is true- for a long time they only had potato cakes.
How much is she paying you Momster?
Hey. I'm older than you so I can remember 'way back in the day' when Arby's only had potato cakes!
Potato cakes POTATOOOOOO CAAAAAKES! And I loved the sauces. I couldn't decide which I liked better (and this was when you had the squeezy bottles of =both= Arby's sauce and Horsey sauce on the table), so I'd squirt one kind on my sammich and take a bite, then squirt the other kind on and take another bite... back and forth until I was full of roast beef and bbq and horsey goodness.
Okay, I have always been scared of Arbys. I don't really know why, but perhaps it is the sauces. Thus, I am uncertain whether I have ever been to an Arbys. Although I distinctly remember the hat.
Nick O'Donnell worked at the Arby's in Northfield one summer, but I don't think it was for very long. My apartment was on the way and we used to hang out either before or after work, and it seems to my addled memory that there was drama. And then he quit. Maybe he worked there two days? Two weeks? Three months? I really don't remember anymore. But in that entire time I did not eat there.
I am curious about potato cakes.
I have never eaten at Arby's. Sad. I don't eat any meat, but potato cakes sound delicious!
