Sad
Here is a sad story from Slate written by a woman who has lost her sense of smell -- something I had never really thought about too much.

I first heard of this disease after Michael Hutchence died - he had this and was very depressed about it (the author mentions him in her piece).

I read this too and was really surprised that she said the symptoms from her stroke (partial paralysis included) were easier to cope with than her loss of smell.
I had a friend who lost his sense of smell and taste (head injury). It was really sad. He was always worried that he smelled bad.
