Book Club

On Monday I hosted Book Club at our house. The club is called Wuthering Bites and the motto is "Read, Eat and Enjoy!" This month we were supposed to read Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham. I only got halfway through because it's really long and I'm a dork.

Anyway Pete and I brainstormed some ideas of snacks to serve that would be related to the book. The book (at least the parts I got to) took place in London, Paris, and a small town in England. The people in the book seemed to only eat bread. The main character drank absinthe sometimes, but I thought that might be too much for a Monday night. I ended up geting Brie to spread on French bread, and crackers with sliced Cheddar and Gruyere.

Pete's brilliant idea was to serve W. Somerset Maugham-a-lade. This was a hit. Although I don't know if anyone actually likes marmalade?

Anyway while we were brainstorming, Pete and I thought about what if in the last chapter, the main character invents nachos, or eat chips and salsa or something, and if I had just finished the book the food ideas would have been super easy.

I'm still going to finish the book by the way. In fact I'm going to finish it in the next couple of days while I take a break from Bladio Blogio and the Internet in general.

See you back here later next week!

Yours in the blogosphere,
Bladio

p.s. Happy Birthday in advance (July 3) to the Gallivanting Monkey, as I will be unavailable to say it on the actual day. As for the rest of you funkhausers, Happy Fourth!

Food News

Product Flash
There is a new kind of Pepperidge Farm Milano: Amaretto. I have yet to try it.

Brilliant Idea
Taco Bell should offer tapas. Bite-sized portions of everything they sell so you can have a taste of everything you like in one visit!

Product Review
The (relatively) new Reese's Peanut Butter Cups with Caramel are not very good. T-rod concurs.

Friday Collage

One day Pete said, "Suzanne Vega is a hitmaker."

He and I are going to see Elton John at Key Arena in September! He offered to go which was a shock since he can't stand Elton. I asked him if he would be sour during the show and he said no. I'm so excited! Maybe we could eat at the fondue restaurant that night too. As long as it's a night for me getting to do whatever I want!

Speaking of concerts, when Pete and I went to see Lou Reed at the Moore (it was either the Moore or the Paramount), when Lou walked out (by the way, he walked like a very old man, or like someone whose muscles are turning to bone) I grabbed Pete's hand in excitement. This caused him to drop his Mento. He had a Mento in hand to pop in right when Lou got to the mike, apparently. Isn't Pete funny? Pete has since given up Mentos and turned to a product called
Mynts.

I have started watching Grey's Anatomy season 1. I am loving it! The first time I watched Grey's Anatomy was the pilot way back when. I only watched to see David Vegh, who was playing a patient. I did not like the show at all (other than David Vegh!) so I never watched it again. In the meantime my friends are always raving about it. It's good. You should watch it!

Here are some foods that Pete and I have made:

- Drunken Noodles
- Crab Cakes
- Grilled Halibut
- Clam Chowder
- Stir-fry
- Bowl of Candy Pie
- Ice Cream (my favorite was strawberry, Pete's was peppermint)
- Vegetable Lasagna
- White Bean Soup
- Burritos
- Mashed Potatoes
- Lamb/Spinach Curry
- Lentils with Onion (disasterous results)
- My Mom's Spaghetti Sauce
- Corn Casserole
- Noodles with Chicken and Peanut Sauce
- Waffles

Once we were serving waffles to Herbert, and I was holding the batter bowl and crouching for some reason. I lost my balance and fell backwards against the wall. But it wasn't far to fall, so to Pete and Herb I guess it seemed like nothing had changed. Except for the fact that I was shouting "I FELL! I FELL!" They just looked at me. Finally I think I said "Help me!" so Pete got up and took the batter bowl from my hands. It makes no sense for me to tell this story on a blog. It must be hard for you to picture, but hey, I thought of it and it made me laugh so there ya go.

Once Pete and I were in a sketchy neighborhood, and we had just seen a woman jump out of a car (it was a slow-moving car but still!). I felt kind of scared so I took Pete's hand. But he took his hand away not long after which made me mad. I asked him about it later and he said he was worried that if a hoodlum saw us, the hoodlum would shout, "WHY ARE YOU HOLDIN' HANDS!?" Isn't he funny?

See ya later.

Food Pain Poll Results

Yes, the results from the Food Pain Poll have finally been tallied.

Top-level results

As you can see, the "other" category was the clear winner with 10 responses. Doritos was in second place with 5 votes. Cap'n Crunch only got 2 responses, and C (both A and B) got none.*

Detail of "D - Other" category

Swallowing a tortilla chip whole and hot pizza tied for first within the "other" category with 2 votes each.

Thanks for playing, everyone! See you next time.

* A - I have been eating Doritos and one Dorito has poked me in the top of my mouth and scraped the skin and it hurt really bad. B - I have been eating Cap'n Crunch and it was so rough that it ripped up the inside of my mouth. C - Both A and B. D - Other (write in).

Have you been eating your TUMS?

Well, no I have not! And now I have a stress fracture in my foot to prove it. Here is what happened:

1. On Wed. May 24, my right foot started hurting.
2. It kept hurting.
3. On Tues. May 30 I started putting it on ice and elevating it.
4. On that day I also called my doctor, but her first opening wasn't until Fri. June 2 at 10 AM.
5. The pain kept getting worse and worse. I would leave work at 3 to go home and put ice on my sad foot.
6. On Friday I went to the doctor, who sent me to have an x-ray.
7. I got the x-ray, and when my doctor got the results, she called and said "you have a stress fracture. You will need to wear a weird ski boot kind of thing for several weeks."
8. I am still waiting to get the ski boot. In the meantime I am supposed to stay off my foot and wear my Dansko clogs to keep my foot from bending.

It hurts, and I am crabby about it.

Here is my foot, and my finger is pointing to where the fracture is.
